Finding Out About Your New Community When You are Moving to New York
When you are moving to New York, you may be faced with a large dose of the unknown. People who are not native New Yorkers seldom have a good idea of what all the different neighborhoods in NYC and the smaller towns are like. You can do some research ahead of time to make sure you are moving to New York areas where you will enjoy living.
The first thing you should do is to take stock of your family. If you have children, think of their ages and what grades they are in school. Then, get on the internet and find the schools that will be available for your child in areas you are interested in already. Every school district usually has a website with plenty of information for people who are moving to New York on test scores, faculty, and specialty programs.
Go to the city government website for the particular city you are moving to in New York. You will find more information there. You will find out how to get your water or electricity turned on. You will find the hours of the city clerk’s office. A virtual trip to this site will help you as you contemplate moving to New York.
The chamber of commerce website for the city you are moving to in New York may be a bounty of information on businesses in the area. You can find out about shopping centers, restaurants, and hotels. You can look for beauty shops and barber shops to use, and garages that might service your cars. It is only a starting point, but you need that if you are moving to New York.
The chamber of commerce might also send you a packet of brochures if you request them before moving to New York. Their main purpose is to promote business in their city. They will be glad to get you all the information you need to entice you to do business in their town.
Look for community organizations such as YMCAs that might be in the area. If they have an online presence, they might have a schedule of all their activities. Then, you can anticipate all the sports and hobbies you might enjoy as soon as you finish moving to New York.
When you are moving to New York, the moving services will help you to get settled once you have chosen your new location. It is important to do research to find out which neighborhood and city in New York will best suit you and your family. Moving to New York should be a happy experience.

FedEx Electric Cars
In our day and age, fossil fuels are coming close to being exhausted, and the world is realising that we have to think of some other options to keep our world functioning, for when they are used up. With new technology popping up in industries across the board, the car industry is no different, but new changes are being implemented into our general vision on a daily basis. FedEx announced this week that they have added four electric delivery vans to their US fleet, for shifts using these vehicles to begin in early June. Described by the New York Times as ‘the cutest vehicles we have ever seen’, the vans have been designed by Modec, a UK based company, and can run up to 100 miles if they have been fully charged overnight. They will be trialled along with the fuel consuming vehicles in the Los Angeles base, and if they are successful, the new technology will be implemented state wide. There are currently ten in circulation here in England, which are successfully out delivering packages to all corners of the UK on a daily basis, with no apparent glitches.
FedEx currently are at the forefront of environmental saving technology, as most of their vans are hybrids, but if the plan goes successfully they hope to roll out fleets of electric cars all over the world.
With one van currently consuming a house worth of energy, this isn’t the definitive plan for the future. Scientists need to develop these tools to consume less electricity, but at the moment, it is a much safer and more environmentally friendly option than the current petrol or diesel model.
If worldwide companies are implementing these new technologies, then it shouldn’t be long before we start to see them in the consumer market. While they save on consumable fuels, they should also provide a cheaper option for car tax and Car Insurance too.

Dairy Power Sweeps New York – Harvest Power
NEW YORK–We’ve heard of ‘Black Power’ and ‘Power to the People.’ But a new green slogan may be coined: ‘Dairy Power.’ This week, more than 200 dairy farmers and industry stakeholders met in Syracuse, New York to discuss the various ways their farms can make energy for the 21st century.
The Dairy Power Summit attendees set a huge goal–by 2020, 40% of waste products from New York dairy farms will be converted to energy by the process of anaerobic digestion. How big of a goal is that? Well, 40% participation would power 30,000 houses in the New York region. Not only would it also provide additional revenue to these farms, but greenhouse gas emissions in the state would decrease by 500,000 metric tons of carbon annually. That’s like taking 100,000 cars off the road every year.
The Summit was convened by the Innovation Center of the United States Dairy, along with General Electric. New York’s 40 by 15 energy plan is one of the most progressive in the nation–especially since 30% of the renewable energy will be sourced through methane.
Summit members also devised an action of plan of more than a dozen projects to help achieve their goals–many of them with tongue-in-cheek names and creative ways to get more people involved with organic waste processing. Examples? “NY Cow Power,” modeled after a Vermont program, will develop an alternative voluntary rate-payer program for energy that’s sourced through anaerobic digestion. The Small Farm Digester Initiative makes organic waste processing a contest–and there’s a $1 million dollar prize going to the winner.
